Now while it’s cold, about all you can do for your garden is plan what you want to plant in the spring. Start by drawing a simple diagram of your garden space and decide what you will plant where. Choose the crops or plants that did well for you in the past and maybe eliminate some that didn’t do so well. (What new flowers do you want to try?)

THE WINTER GARDEN Tips To Help The Gardener Survive Winter
BY GREG POWELL – “POWELL THE FLORIST”
Winter is a good time to reflect on your garden.
Hopefully you have already cleaned out your garden and prepared it for winter by spreading the leaves and compost out and tilling it into the soil, along with some nutrients. if we get some mild days, it’s not too late to do this and then cover the garden area so heavy rains or snowmelt do not wash the nutrients too far down into the soil.

Now is the time to order any seeds or starts from your catalogs so they will be shipped and in hand when it’s time for planting.

Now is also a good time to check out your gardening tools. Make sure they are sharpened and in good shape. clean them if necessary and spray them with some WD-40 or wipe with a light oil to stop any rust from growing. Replace any that have worn out, if you can find them now, and make a list of things you’ll need that may not be available in stores until spring.
Be prepared when Spring arrives and you’ll have an enjoyable planting season!
